AdWords is also a kind of pay per click search engine but works a bit differently compared to the regular PPC SE. If you have made a search in Google, you have probably seen the small ads on the upper right side of the page, when the search results comes up. You, as a potential advertiser can bid to get such ads shown, when someone is making a search, relevant for your niche market. So when someone see your ad, they may click through to your web site.
This is highly targeted traffic, because someone is actually looking for your product, service or info web site, by doing a targeted search. Here is where niche marketing comes in. Instead of focusing on the more general, highly competitive and expensive words, i would target an ad towards less important phrases. You would get less traffic this way, but it's easier to get a high ranking, so the ad can actually be seen, even with low bid amounts.
I use the same strategy here, as mentioned in the PPC SE installment of this eCourse. I rarely bid more than the minimum amount but instead try to find as many keywords as possible, related to my niche market. AdWords provide tools in your account, so you can find many related keywords which people actually use in a Google search. You will even get an estimate of how many times that particular keyword will be used daily. Finding many cheap keywords or keyword phrases, can add up to get good, targeted and low cost traffic to your site.
NB. As of this writing, AdWords charges your credit card at the end of a certain period. In my own experience, that's why it's very important to keep control of actual click costs in the beginning and throughout the first period of a new campaign. (until it's fine tuned and you'll see the actual daily cost) This is recommended to avoid a negative CC charge surprise at the end of a billing period. There is an option for setting a maximum daily click budget.
