Unless you decide to build a so called lens on squidoo.com or set up an ad at usfreeads.com, a listing in the major free search engines could take weeks, if not months. One useful strategy is to then run PPC SE campaigns while waiting for traffic results from the free search engines. I.e. with AdWords you could have an active campaign up within 30 minutes of opening an account, which brings targeted visitors to your web site right away.

YSM and Adwords are the biggest of the PPC SE, with the most searches but also with the most expensive keywords to bid on. So if the marketing budget doesn't allow it, i would go for the more cheaper miva.com etc. Check out the reviews above for account fees, minimum bid amounts and more.

My personal approach and strategy with the PPC SE, is quite simple. Personally, i rarely bid more than the minimum bid amount per click to get visitors to my sites, although i will get lower rankings as a result. Instead, i try to find as many cheap keywords related to my niche market as possible. The PPC SE will usually provide free tools in your account, to find such keywords. In this way, many cheap keywords can add up and give decent traffic from the PPC SE, on an affordable budget for most people.

It's a numbers game. If you have one buyer out of hundred visitors to your site, which is attainable with good sales copy writing and quality products and let's say you sell your product for $50, it will cost you $10 to earn a $40 profit, with a minimum bid amount of $0.10 in this case. And then, if on a shoe string budget, one can re-invest the profit into buying more keywords on other PPC SE and really get the traffic ball rolling. Early in a campaign, a very important part of a profitable PPC SE strategy is testing, to quickly erase or change ads which are poor performers.

The following Report (over 30 pages) helps to see the pitfalls of PPC marketing and gives a better understanding of why tracking, down to the keyword level, is so important to find workable campaigns and in turn, increase your bottom line.

Below is another tip on how to get low cost traffic from the miva.com engine, this method may not work forever though:

Deposit the account minimum required, then only bid the minimum on very expensive keywords targeted for your site, which will cost much more for a top ranking. You will then end up way down on the ranking list.

However, it will still get you listed in their massive database. Since your listing is so far down because of the low bid, few will ever click through to your site. If they do, it will only cost you the minimum bid

So, what is the point in this method?

Various free search engines use the PPC SE data bases to show alternative search results. Miva.com is a network of many search engines.

So this listing gives you a position in these other search engines, through the sharing of data bases and more exposure and clicks could be the outcome.
